Beeyoutiful's essential oil collection could not be complete without Basil Essential Oil, and there are hundreds of reasons why it should earn a spot in your family's cabinet as well! Deriving its name from the Greek word for "king", Basil was known as the "King of Plants". While its amazing flavor and pairing with fresh vegetables and meats in many cuisines should alone earn it that title, its true worth can be seen in the extensive list of medicinal uses that history has recorded. From insect bites to digestion to lifting moods, Basil has been documented to help. Hildegard of Bingen, one of the first published naturopaths, wrote extensively about Basil and its uses in the 11th Century.
The sweet, licorice-like aroma of Basil pairs well with Lavender, Clary Sage, Geranium, Peppermint, or any citrus essential oil. Basil can be inhaled, diffused, and used topically. When used topically, Basil Essential Oil should be mixed with a carrier oil for a dilution of 0.1% (to achieve, add 1 drop of Basil Essential Oil to 2 ounces of carrier oil).
Topical Uses: When mixed with a carrier oil, Basil Essential Oil is generally considered safe to use on the skin. Basil can be mixed with Sweet Almond Oil and then massaged on the feet, back, abdomen or other area of choice to aid in relaxation, support digestion and respiratory health, and even help decrease discomfort from bug bites.
Diffusing: Basil can either be diffused alone or mixed with other essential oils to create a pleasant and relaxing environment. Pair with Peppermint to aid respiratory health and create a cool and crisp aroma. Mix with Rosemary, Eucalyptus, and Lemon when you are sick or feel run down.
Laundry: Add a drop to your laundry soap or detergent for a fragrant boost to your laundry!
