Oregano Oil is respected by many medical scientists for its all-around healing capabilities. Beeyoutiful’s pure, therapeutic Oregano Essential Oil is distilled from Origanum vulgare, the oregano plant which grows wild in the Mediterranean region, differing from the "oregano" found in grocery stores which is typically Spanish marjoram (Origanum marjoram) and does not share wild oregano's health supporting properties.
Hippocrates—the ancient Greek “father of medicine”—referred to Oregano Oil as a potent agent. Its antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties enable it to fight off infection of all kinds. The Greek philosopher Aristotle noticed that tortoises who ate snakes would then eat oregano. This appeared to prevent them from being poisoned, so he began to recommend it as an antidote for poison.
Oregano may well have first been used for its health properties before its now-famous seasoning talents were discovered. Ancient Egyptians prized oregano for its ability to disinfect wounds and aid the repairing process, and it may even have played a role in mummification. Throughout history Oregano continued to be used to help boost immunity and soothe respiratory woes.
Mixes well with: Atlas cedar, basil, bergamot, citronella, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, orange, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, and wintergreen.
Topical: Can be mixed with a carrier oil to achieve an overall percentage of 1% Oregano Oil (1 drop Oregano Oil to 1 teaspoon of Carrier Oil). Can be applied over wrist, feet, down the spine, and at the base of the neck.
Important: While most people are not allergic to oregano oil, it is recommended that you test to make sure you’re not one of the few who are. Apply a drop diluted with a bit of olive oil to the inside of your elbow. If there is no reaction after 10 minutes, you are probably not allergic to oregano oil.
Cleaning: Fantastic for use as a natural disinfectant. Mix 10 drops of Oregano Oil to 2 cups of water to create a cleaning spray. Can mix with other essential oils such as Lemon, Thyme, Orange, or Rosemary. You can also include 1 teaspoon of Castile soap to provide a small amount of suds.
Diffusing: Great to diffuse, especially when blended with other oils to help chase the bugs away.
Pregnancy/Nursing: Oregano Essential Oil should NOT be used while pregnant or nursing.
Note: Do not use with children under 2 years old. Never use topically in a concentration greater than 1% Oregano Oil in a Carrier Oil. If you are on medication or have a known medical diagnosis, please check with your practitioner before using. Persons with known bleeding disorders should not use Oregano.
